I head to Nepal on Friday 4 April 2025 for my second attempt on Mt Kanchenjunga (8586m), the iconic third highest mountain in the World, on the 70th anniversary year of its first ascent – by British climbers Joe Brown and George Band, who summited on 25 May 1955, followed by Norman Hardie and Tony Streather the following day.
It’s been quite a journey of meticulous preparation, planning and training the past 4-5 months, consisting of mountaineering / trekking in the mountains of the UAE, the coastal path of Dorset, UK, or the hills of Hong Kong – mostly on my own but sometimes with good friends. And one of the important awareness tools to have on any planned major achievement is to truly appreciate that journey…
Kanch will mean little to anyone outside of the adventure world – or the people of Nepal and Sikkim, India, which the mountain straddles the border, but for myself it has become a personal challenge that has consumed me. A challenge for the purpose of pursuing excellence, experiences and enlightenment, a life and meaning.
