2015 is the 200th anniversary of the Gurkhas service to the British Army. There will be a host of public events taking place in the UK and worldwide to commemorate the huge efforts and sacrifice of the great men from the mountains of Nepal. This includes a team of serving Gurkha soldiers attempting to summit Mt Everest, which I climbed in 2006 and who I will be avidly supporting.

As a former Gurkha officer and as part of this celebration, I am pleased to formally announce my next project for April and May 2015 – a summit attempt of mighty Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest mountain in the world, located in the Himalayas of Eastern Nepal, where many of our soldiers are from. Standing 8586 metres, ‘Kancha’ may not be known by many of you but it is a formidable challenge with less summits than even the second highest in the world, the notorious K2, which I was fortunate to summit in July this year.

I had eight utterly memorable and unique years serving in the Brigade and want to do my own part to raise both awareness and funds for the Gurkha Welfare Trust - the charity that helps the families of soldiers who served and died in the loyal service of the Crown.

If any of you would like to sponsor the Kanchenjunga Expedition - or know a potential sponsor, perhaps with Gurkha links - please email Jamie Cunningham on jamiec@profsports.com and myself on info@adrianhayes.com for more details. Many thanks.
