Writing from Klagenfurt, Austria, two days before my first full Ironman. The atnosphere is electric; the energy so powerful you can virtually touch it; the camraderie like no other event I've ever done. I'm already hooked.
And I shouldn't have been here. Ironman China on 29th May was the target. That was cancelled two weeks before the race and disrupted everything. Austria came up with a late place, 7 weeks later I'm here. The only problem is those 7 weeks have seen the highest May and June temperatures I've ever experienced in Dubai. And training in 40C and 95% hunidity, no air to breath, no way of cooling down, shoes squelching in a pool of sweat, has been a total joke.
Training has thus suffered hugely and though I go by "quality, not quantity" I've managed neither in the heat! Whatever, going to enjoy the day to the fullest.
