Back in Dubai a day and off to Kilimanjaro tomorrow (Thurs 1st Jul) to lead a group of 22 ultra keen novices on Gulf for Good's "Trek to the Roof of Africa".

Gulf for Good is the UAE based charity which organises adventures in - whilst providing tangible charity aid for - 3rd World countries. The Kili challenge is raising money to build school classrooms in Tanzania and we will be spending a day helping out at "our" school during the trip.

Not climbed Kili before but did climb Mt Kenya by the Ice Window route on Christas Day many years ago with Army colleage Matt Dower. A memorable christmas night was subsequently spent freezing to death in the tiny emergency bivvi on top of the mountain. 3 days later we were diving on the Indian Ocean Beach......

Sadly, the route, a technical mixed ice and rock route in the 80s, is now almost totally rock - testimony to the fact that the glaciers on both Kenya and Kili are retreating so fast that they may indeed eventually disappear.....
