I am extremely disappointed to write that our summit attempt on K2 has been abandoned along with all of the other teams at Base Camp.

The snow conditions encountered en route to Camp 3 were deep, impassable and dangerous, and it was on our Sherpas nearly being swept away by an avalanche that a decision was made to return to base camp on Fri 26th. Today a collective and reluctant further decision was made to abandon summit plans for K2 this season. Only the Kiwi duo, who went up to Camp 3 when the other teams returned to BC, remain on the mountain as yet another avalanche (pictured) thundered down the mountain and across the glacier 500 metres from Base Camp at lunchtime. Success on K2 is never guaranteed, this time the mountain has had its say..........
